Who Has To Use E-Verify?
President George W Bush amended Executive Order 12989 to direct all federal departments and agencies to require contractors to use an electronic employment eligibility verification system to verify the employment eligibility of employees performing work under a covered federal contract.
The DHS designated E-Verify as the electronic employment eligibility verification system that all federal contractors must use as required by the amended Executive Order 12989. Your federal contract or subcontract will determine whether you qualify for the E-Verify clause requirement. Some states and local cities are also requiring E-Verify compliance.
What does that mean to me?
E-Verify is a free, Internet-based system that allows employers to electronically verify their employees’ employment eligibility. As an employer, you have the option to enroll your company, take the required online training/testing and perform verifications online. It is your company’s responsibility to ensure that your users are prepared and capable of using E-Verify properly. Misuse of the E-Verify may lead to legal liability for both the company and the user.
What other option do I have?
KJI is an E-Verify Employer Agent which allows us to confirm the employment eligibility for other companies using the E-Verify system. In this capacity, we can assist you in meeting the requirements of E-Verify. Employer would be responsible for submitting required paperwork to KJI in a timely manner so as to meet E-Verify filing requirements.
Enrollment of Client Employer in E-Verify: includes reference materials and required posters - $50.00 per year
E-Verify verification process:
$25.00 per case - employee verified with initial case result of employment authorized
$50.00 per case - employee case results in other than initial case result of employment authorized.
